School of Ministry
Church of the City is pleased to announce the launch of the School of Ministry in the Fall of 2027. The School of Ministry exists to cultivate future ministry leaders who desire to see the fame and deeds of God renewed again in our time by being deeply rooted in Christ, equipped with biblical understanding, and prepared to serve the unique needs of our city. Our mission is to see lost New Yorkers far from God, transformed into compelling missional disciples by producing leaders through a year of growth, practical ministry experience, and spiritual formation. We envision a cohort of leaders transformed by the gospel, who will be sent out to shape communities with compassion, wisdom, and a deep reliance on the Holy Spirit. The School of Ministry was created to provide training and formation to men and women feeling the call of God into advanced Kingdom ministry.
Structure & Outcomes:
This year blends classroom learning with real-world ministry placements. Graduates will emerge ready to serve in either Church of the City or their own ministry setting, embodying the values and vision of our community and the Kingdom of God.
What is included?
Students will receive curricular content in six graduate level courses (Old Testament Survey, New Testament Survey, Theology of Urban Mission, Initiation to Spiritual Formation, Jesus and World Religions and Foundations for Ministry). Classes are tentatively scheduled to run from 7 am to 8:30 am Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the COTC Ministry Center. One class will be held in two separate Saturday modules. This will allow students to hold full-time jobs in NYC if necessary and to participate fully in the mission and ministries of Church of the City.
Students will receive practical training in various areas of ministry through the Church of the City Ministry Network.
Students will receive practical training in prayer ministry through the prayer intensives at the Church of the City Prayer Room
Students will receive scholarships to all Church of the City sponsored events (Altars Conference, Awaken events, ChurchCon)
Students will be mentored by ministry leaders at Church of the City during the time of their matriculation in the program.
Students who successfully complete the School of Ministry program will receive a certificate of graduation and referrals to ministry opportunities in New York City and beyond.
What is the cost and requirements for admission?
The cost of tuition is $3500 and can be spread out into a payment plan if needed. The application fee is $50. This is non-refundable but will be applied to the students’ tuition once accepted. Acceptance into the COTC School of Ministry is by application only. Submission of an application does not guarantee admission. Qualified applicants may be invited to an interview. Please keep in mind that this is a New York City based program that is fully “in person.” We believe that New York City is the classroom and hands on ministry experience at Church of the City is part of the curriculum.
Tentative Course Schedule:
Courses will be 10 weeks; 1.5 hours of seat time in class per week and 3 hours of outside of class reading, research and assignments.

Dr. Ron Walborn serves on the pastoral staff of Church of the City New York.
From 2023–2025, Ron served as Director of Urban Initiatives at Asbury Theological Seminary and now serves on Asbury's Board of Trustees. Prior to that, he spent more than two decades at Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary (1999–2023), where he was Professor of Pastoral Theology and later Vice President and Dean of the Seminary.
Ron holds a B.A. in History from Nyack College, an M.Div. from Alliance Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary. He has also served as a pastor in Alliance churches in Connecticut and California.
His wife, Dr. Wanda Walborn, holds a B.S. in Elementary Education from Nyack College, an M.A. in Intercultural Studies from Alliance Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Intercultural Studies from Western Seminary. Together, Ron and Wanda share a calling to bring healing and renewal to the Church in the United States and around the world.
Ron and Wanda have been married for more than 40 years and are grateful parents of four married children and grandparents to seven grandchildren. Outside of ministry, they're always happy to share a cup of good coffee.
