Our Worship Apprenticeship is designed for college students who desire to pursue a career in Worship Ministry.

As the Worship Pastors of Church of the City New York, Isaac and Emily Gay see the need for those not yet in full-time ministry to receive equipping in the areas of leadership, spiritual discipleship, and fostering generative church communities. At the core of their mission, Church of the City Worship has a heart to equip and come alongside worshippers, so they can navigate the spiritual disciplines required to be a disciple of Jesus in an urban context. As a community, COTC longs to fill in the gap of ministry training by providing additional contextualized discipleship for those desiring to have healthy, life-long ministries within metropolitan cities.

During the apprenticeship, you will be shadowing Isaac & Emily Gay, learning the "in's and out's" of church life and the everyday tasks of worship pastors. You will be invited into the church community by assisting in shepherding and caring for the church, as well as other COTC ministry partners (such as NYC Relief, NYC Rescue Mission, and the Bowery Mission), through leading worship and serving the marginalized in our city.

While serving in these capacities, Isaac and Emily will teach you how to integrate your experiences serving among the marginalized, whom Jesus loves, with your faith and into your worship songwriting.  As the co-founders of Church of the City Worship, Isaac and Emily feel it is extremely important for us as worshippers to “Sing a new song to the Lord!” (Psalm 96:1) As we have new experiences with the Living God and see Him move in our lives and in the lives of others, it’s appropriate to respond with new songs of praise and thanksgiving!

Finally, the last aspect of this apprenticeship will be exploring the beauty and adventure of the city as we practice what it means to take a true Sabbath, as a healthy rhythm of life.

We hope you join us this summer as we live in the way of Jesus for the renewal of the city!

No later than May 10th, however, if you get your application/audition in beforehand, you can hear back as early as April 21st.

Can I fundraise for the apprenticeship?
Yes! Because you will be serving the church and many other NYC ministries, this is very much a service-oriented experience. We do ask that you send your money in all at the same time. You can send payment to

CC: Church of the City Worship
409 W 45th St. Apt. 5
NY, NY 10036

(Checks can be made out to: Church of the City New York)

When do I need to have submitted my payment?
June 1st

Where will we be staying?
Over the course of the apprenticeship you will be staying at a few different places. Most of the time you will be staying in the home (apartment) of one of the families in our church community and the rest of the time you will be staying at the NYC Relief base here in the city. They have many teams come through and stay there on Missions Trips.

.Are meals included?
Some of your meals will be included. Please plan on bringing extra money for food to cover the rest of the meals that are not provided. (You will be able to go grocery shopping, however, our suggestion is $100-150 a week).

Is transportation in the city included?
Yes, we will provide you with a Unlimited Metrocard that is good for all subway/bus stations.

Is transportation TO and FROM the city included?
No. All apprentices are responsible for booking/providing their own transportation to and from the city.

Can I drive and leave my car in the city?
No. Parking is extremely expensive in NYC, starting at $250/month or more, and street parking, especially in Midtown, is a huge hassle. We ask that all apprentices fly, take a train, or get dropped off if driving.

Should I bring my instrument with me?
Yes, unless it’s drums.

How should I pack?
LIGHTLY! You will have access to a washer & dryer. This is NYC -- you do not want to lug around your suitcase here. Believe us. Please bring a backpack to carry your belongings around. (Not a purse ladies.) ;)
